Syracuse: A Retrospective

Syracuse: A Retrospective 36"x80" oil on primed wood

Before moving back out of Syracuse, I painted this cityscape montage of my longtime city's architecture, each with buildings/areas of personal significance to me in my lifetime there. It was a look back at the scenery and places that have left such strong, formative impressions on me from childhood until moving; from Syracuse University The Lord put me through without debt, to the clock tower of Crouse hospital, where my premature son was miraculously healed.
I was blessed to finish this in 22 days, and it went on display the same night I was moving; we left the opening show to drive 14 hours south with all our belongings to Charlotte, NC.

Below is the pencil underdrawing before painting the oil final.

After being approached by a fellow artist at the art supply store I had spent some time working at, he asked me if I wanted to do murals, to which I responded that I didn't now how. So, he taught me and introduced me to the Coca Cola art of Harmony mural project and spent two years on it doing many smaller scale murals of high school students' designs on restaurants, pizza shops and even convenient store walls, very often in the hood, with drug deals going on three feet behind my back. It was a fun and unique project I tremendously enjoyed, it introduced me to the Oswego Mural project and taught me how to do murals.

Another mural in the Oswego Historic Mural project, this was the largest and most complex, including several scenes and more than ten individual life sized portraits.

Oswego Mayor's Conference Room mural

I was hired by Oswego's mayor to design and paint a cityscape montage for the mayor's conference room's wall- as he dedicated the George Barnard historic mural I had just finished down the street. I guess he really liked it and it opened an opportunity for me to paint another piece for the city. It is still there today as are all the Oswego murals.

After painting a Coca Cola commissioned mural in Movino's, the owner commissioned a cityscape with his portrait in the middle tossing pizza dough all painted over his wood fired pizza oven. The Store closed several years ago unfortunately and the murals were destroyed, but had some of the best thin crust pizza ever; not to mention their salads and sandwiches-spectacular.

Italian Scene At Mario And Salvo's Pizza

A scene inspired by the owner's hometown in Italy to decorate the restaurant dining room of this (very delicious) pizza place in DeWitt, just on the edge of Syracuse.
